Coastal Cats & Critters

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who provides care, compassion, and a better life for feral, abandoned, and unadoptable cats along the coast of Baldwin County, Alabama.

Coastal Cats & Critters was born from a lifelong dream of animal rescue. When founder Mona Brown rescued two small, feral kittens from a condo dumpster, she realized what a serious and ongoing problem cat neglect, abuse, and abandonment has become — not just in Baldwin County, but throughout the entire country.

With millions of cats and kittens abandoned each year (most of whom aren't spayed or neutered), shelters are already overrun without the regular requests they get from their community to pick up strays who have been left behind. Nearly 1,000 cats are euthanized every day in shelters nationwide, due to overcrowding.

Mona and her husband founded Coastal Cat Sanctuary in 2023, in an effort to offer these previously unwanted and neglected animals the loving home and haven they deserve. Coastal Cats & Critters was established soon after, for the purpose of funding and running this 19+ acre sanctuary that saves so many innocent lives.

Our mission is to rescue feral and abandoned cats along the coastline of Baldwin County, Alabama, where they have been affected by urban growth, or deemed a threat to endangered wildlife, and/or a nuisance to the public.

As a nonprofit organization who does not receive government funding, we rely on the support of generous donors like you. Your donation helps ensure that every cat in our care receives the love, medical attention, and daily necessities they need to thrive.

Our Process

All cats are given a thorough medical exam upon intake, including spaying/neutering (if needed).

Cats deemed unadoptable will be given a cage-free environment, and a lifetime of care at our sanctuary.

Cats considered adoptable will also be provided with a cage-free environment as we search for their fur-ever home.

Our purpose is to rescue cats who are feral, abandoned, and unadoptable. We do not take owner surrenders.

We prioritize the health and well-being of our resident cats when considering intakes, so as not to outgrow our means. We never want to take in more than we can provide for.

We offer assistance with spaying, neutering, and TNVR (trap neuter vaccinate return) on a case-by-case basis. Contact us for more information.

It is Vitally Important To
Spay or Neuter Your Pets

Nearly 1,000 cats are euthanized daily in shelters nationwide, due to overcrowding. Spaying and neutering helps control the pet population. This reduces the number of stray animals, which can lead to fewer animals in shelters and lower euthanasia rates. It helps mitigate the problem of overpopulation, reducing the strain on animal shelters and rescue organizations.
